Making the Trip

Ron and I have asked the Universe to please comply with our travel plans to Iowa. In the next few days a giant snow storm will envelope the Midwest, just in time for Christmas. But aha - gotcha - we're leaving the Monday AFTER Christmas to drive 900 miles across Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa. I've checked out three audio books for the drive. These are Story Weather by Carl Hiaasen, Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, and of course My Antonia by Willa Cather. That should get us there and back. We've reserved Cabin Two at Moon River cabins in Bellevue, part of the Mount Rest B&B but on the other end of town, about 60 feet above the Mississippi. We've arranged to meet the realtor, the contractor, the inspector, the lender, the tinker and the tailor. Just kidding about those two. The day we see Bellevue House in person will be our 11th wedding anniversary. I can't think of a more exciting, future-embracing way to spend it.

It Starts with an Offer

Last week Ron and I made an offer on a house we've never really seen. We've looked at some pictures and we think we may have even driven by it once. And it is 900 miles away from our home here in Laramie. Somehow the universe is urging us on, and we've made an offer. Yesterday that offer was accepted. Now we're making plans to go see the house for real, this time. If all goes well, it'll be official. We'll be investing in an 1880 Queen Anne style Victorian home a block off the Mississippi River in Bellevue, Iowa. Right now it is divided into two apartments, and we intend to keep it that way for quite awhile. This Bellevue House Journal will chronicle how we bring this house back to something Mark Twain could be proud of.
Welcome to Bellevue House!
